Minors and Majors

I absolutely love this quote by Eileen Caddy which says “Set your sights high, the higher the better. Expect the most wonderful things to happen, not in the future but right now. Realize that nothing is too good. Allow absolutely nothing to hamper you or hold you up in any way.” The reason I love this quote so much is because often time we allow our circumstances, adversities, people, and life to hold us up from chasing and realizing our dreams. Then I ask myself why? Well, we do this because we make the minors in life our majors which means we are too focused on the small things instead of the big picture hence people lose out on their future accomplishments.
So, I ask you, what are the minors in your life that you are making your major this week and how can you change your mindset so that you can expect the most wonderful things to happen to you right now by setting your sights high?  The first step is to stop asking “how” you are going to do it. In the words of Les Brown “How is none of your business”.  Just follow the plan that God has for your life. Dare to dream then take the steps necessary to accomplish your goals.
I challenge you today to be greater than you was yesterday because I see greatness in all of you!

Support System

This was a great weekend full of fun and excitement. I am so happy that my cousin came to visit because I was reminded on how much fun it is to live life and still be an extraordinary being. She reminded me of who we were as kids and who we have grown to be an adults and wow! The faith and positivity we bring to a room is overwhelming. God made some strong women out of our past experiences and I am grateful for her presence that reminded me of all this.

As I continue to chase my dreams and as some of them have come into fruition, I am motivated to continue the journey. God said if I asked he would give it to me, he never said it would be easy but he also never said I had to do it alone either. This is why I have a strong support system made up of some powerful and successful women. They keep me going, they are my backbone and strength when I don’t have any. They comfort me when I am going through a trial and remind me that I am going through it and it is not here to stay, they motivate me when I am stagnant in progress, they challenge me when I am sitting in my comfort zone for too long, they encourage me and speak life into my life when my cup is empty and they are my cheerleaders when I need them to be. These are the type of people you want in your life!

As the fall season approaches, I challenge you to clean house of all the people who are not feeding you and who are not speaking life into you. It’s time to step into your new season with positivity and with your team. I also, challenge you to be that support system to someone else in your life. We all need those people. So look within yourself and see what you can bring to the table in all the relationships around you!

Happy Tuesday to all!

Walking in your purpose

I love my Wednesdays. On Wednesday evenings, I get the opportunity to speak life into my clients during our coaching sessions and I am grateful for the spiritual gifts of wisdom, exhortation, leadership, and faith. I thank God that HE answered my prayers when I asked for him to reveal to me, my true purpose and to allow me to live in that purpose.

It’s interesting how a year ago I was in a very different place mentally and had to take my own advice on “if I am not getting the answer I am looking for, then I would need to ask a different question”. Before bringing it to God, I would ask myself, how I could use my skills and talents to advance my career. Although, I already had a strong feeling as to what my purpose was and what I was supposed to do with my life. It never felt official. So, I stopped asking myself that question and I brought it to God and asked him a different question. I asked him what my purpose was then I asked him to reveal to me, HIS plan for my life and for the wisdom and knowledge to fulfill it.

Since then, it has been a mind blowing experience. The journey has not been easy however, it has been worth every moment. The failures that I have experienced along the way have become the experience I needed to live a life of significance and has created the stories that allow me to speak life into others.

How are you using your life experience and walking in your purpose in order to speak life into other?

Leadership

Leadership in itself is defined as “the action of leading a group of people or an organization.” Yet, this definition does not clearly define leadership because there are many components that make up leadership including communication, influence, mentorship, responsibility, motivation, support, ethics, decision making, contribution, vision, teamwork, and management.  In order for individuals to become great leaders they must understand these components.
  • Communication-Leaders understand that communication has more to do with the connection made with their listeners than it has to do with the words coming out of their mouth. Therefore, leaders take their time, listening to their followers to find common ground. Once this is achieved they are better able to convey their message in a simple and clear manner.
  • Influence-Influence has nothing to do with your position in a company or organization. In fact, anyone can have influence on someone else because influence is the ability to personally affect others’ actions, decisions, opinions or thinking. Having influence only occurs when followers feel as though a person or leader can be trusted.  John Maxwell noted that “Leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less” and this is true.
  •  Mentorship-Building a relationship with followers is key in leadership. Becoming a mentor to followers allows the leader to teach others in his or her area of expertise but it also allows the leader to learn about each follower and guide him or her in the right direction for success.
  •  Responsibility-Leaders understand that every action that a leader takes can greatly influence the outcome of their success, therefore, they accept full responsibility for the performance of their followers. In addition, leaders are not afraid to accept criticism for mistakes or take steps to address concerns and make amends with those who have been inconvenienced.
  •  Motivation- Motivation is a crucial element in setting and attaining personal and organizational goals. Therefore, through relationship building with followers, leaders learn their wants and needs. They use this information to better encourage these individuals which helps their followers to become motivated in their task. This in turn develops highly effective individuals.
  • Support-Leaders understand that lending support is important in leadership for followers who may be struggling with a task. Though leaders communicate their expectations and directions while ensuring that it was clearly defined and understood. Leaders do not simply assign tasks and then receive the results. Instead, if a follower is struggling the leader works through the tasks with the follower to improve skills and talent.
  • Ethics- Leaders know what they value. They also recognize the importance of ethical behavior. The best leaders exhibit both their values and their ethics in their leadership style and actions. Leadership ethics and values should be visible because the leader exhibits them in all actions. By demonstrating this through action, it visibly will create trust between the leader and followers.
  • Decision-Leaders understand how to balance emotion with reason and make decisions that positively impact themselves, their followers and their organizations.
  • Contribution-Leaders think about their contribution to their followers. They reflect on how their leadership is making a difference to their followers, organizations and community. Leaders recognize by asking “how their leadership is making a difference” helps them understand how their own actions have contributed to followers and their organization, whether good or bad.
  • Vision- Effective leaders define a vision and build followers' commitment to it.
  • Teamwork-Leaders understand that teamwork consist of collaboration from their followers and allow their followers to be heard.
  • Management-Leaders understand that leadership refers to an individual's ability to influence, motivate, and enable others to contribute toward organizational success. Influence and inspiration separate leaders from managers, not power and control.

Each components that makes up leadership is very important and is easily executed by a successful leader. However, if you find yourself struggling with any one of these components, it does not mean you will never become a successful leader. Leadership is teachable. All you have to be is willing to learn!

Failure is inevitable

Don't allow others to sway you into believing that in order to be successful that you will never make mistakes or fail.
Failure is Inevitable. How you deal with it is life changing!

Therefore, I challenge you to take a positive stance on failing and making mistakes by reminding yourself that you are human but you're also unstoppable. With that change in mindset you will realize that failures and mistakes are part of the process to becoming a better version of yourself!

Continue to chase and live out your dreams. The power to attain your goal comes from within!

Create a life of abundance

As I sit here and reflect on my life and think about what I need for success, I think about all the people I lead, the ones I coach, and those I train to be a better version of themselves. With those individuals in mind, it reminds me why I do the work that I do each day. It reminds me of the purpose I was given and allows me to live a life that creates abundance. It also allows me to jump over the hurdles that appear in my journey to success. Not because I'm a super human, but because I'm unstoppable in my path. I keep in mind what Peter Diamandis once said "Creating abundance is not about creating a life of luxury for everybody on the planet; it’s about creating a life of [possibilities]".

I challenge you today to create a life of possibilities and chase the dream that was put in your heart.

I challenge you to get a life or leadership coach to take this amazing journey with you. I challenge you to invest in your future self. Why? Because you were meant to do great things!

So go out there and be great!

Pain and Hard Work

We all have past experiences that have changed us or have rocked us to the core. However, you cannot think about your future if you are still living in your past. You have to be able to use those experiences for the purpose of growing into the best version of yourself.
I have had many life experiences that I had to endure to get to where I am today. Some were good, some were bad, and others were unbearable yet, each had a lesson for me to learn. While learning in these seasons of life I learned that pain doesn’t last forever and I take comfort in the term “I am GOING through something” why? Well, because it means that the pain, sorrow, heartache, stress, and others emotions I was feeling in those moments and circumstances were not here to stay but to just pass through.
You see, most of you say you want to grow, you want to be better than you was yesterday, you want to be successful. Yet, you don’t want to endure the pain or hard work that accompanies that success. Some of you envy other people’s lives because of their fortune and wealth. However, have you ever stopped to think about the pain or work they had to endure to get where they are today? What we are seeing when we look at successful people is the result of the work they put in to achieve their goal.
So, I challenge you today, instead of wishing you had the life of someone else or wishing your life was better, focus on the dream that was given to you and take action. I challenge you to move your feet through your storm!  Karen Salmansohn once said “You are stronger than your challenges and your challenges are making you stronger”. People who have achieved their goals and have become better versions of themselves understand and value what challenges do to them.
Look in the mirror and ask yourself: Who do you want to be tomorrow? What do you define as the best version of yourself? What dreams are you currently sitting on and refuse to take action on because it requires work, sweat, and tears?
I believe you all have the potential to be great. That is why I have dedicated my career as a life coach to help others get to the other side of their potential and become the best versions of themselves.  I believe you have greatness inside of you, I believe you have the drive and desire to chase your dreams. I Believe in YOU!
Now it’s time for you to believe in yourself! You are Unstoppable!

What's Your Purpose?

It is truly important to know your purpose in life. It will get you through life's most difficult battles and allow you to continue to push through to the end. Yet, knowing one's purpose appears to be the hardest thing to draw out of individuals. I often ask myself, why is it, people get up everyday to go to a job that they are unhappy with, continue to interact with people would bring their spirit down, and continue to lack the motivation in finding their "why"?

I believe it is because some of you, don't believe that you matter. But I am here to tell you, that you do Matter. You are valued and there is a purpose for your life. All you need to do is look within your inner being to find it. I know some of you are thinking " well Doc, that's easy for you to say, you know your purpose". However, I did not always know my purpose. I was once like you, I was living in someone else's purpose, fulfilling everyone else's needs, allowing myself to believe these were the cards I was dealt and started to lose motivation.

Then something happen, I woke up one morning and said enough! I matter too, I deserve to seek out the reason why I was born. That morning I decided that I was going to find my purpose. Yet, I didn't look to the world but I looked within myself. I knew God had a plan for my life and I always had the burning desire to help others by pouring into their lives with encouragement and wisdom. Those are my gifts and was a starting point in finding my purpose.

I realized a few years ago, the way God intended me to help people and use my gifts was through taking a journey with each person and giving them wisdom, encouragement, knowledge, and inspiration along the way. On this journey we call life, I dare my clients to dream, but I don't stop there! I challenge them to take action. After all, what is a dream without action? Its a fantasy..... So, here I walk with each one of them on their journey to finding themselves, finding their purpose, chasing their dreams and living a life that matters, and equipping them to live a life of significance.
With this, I am honored that each of them decided to choose me as their Coach. Allowing us to do life together!

I challenge you tonight to look within yourself and ask yourself "What's your purpose?" If you don't have an answer, I would like you to consider what purpose looks like:
* A purpose will motivate you.
* A purpose will keep your priorities straight.
* A purpose will develop your potential.
* A purpose will give you power to live in the present.
* A purpose will help you evaluate your progress.

Once you are ready to seek out your purpose OR when you what your purpose is, then I want you must ask yourself, how much are you willing to invest in developing a better version of yourself?
During the summer months while everyone is investing on vacations to escape reality, I challenge you to invest in yourself and seek out where your potential can take you. Develop a growth plan, create a vision board for the summer, go get some good self-help books, attend workshops, and lastly get a Coach to do life with you!

I offer free consultations to those who are serious about becoming the best version of themselves. I also offer guided coaching sessions that are geared towards your personal growth plan which will transform you into someone, others wont recognize.

Are you ready? Are you willing?

Take Action!

What dream are you sitting on right now because of some man made excuse you keep telling yourself is the reason you can’t start moving your feet? Calvin Coolidge said once “Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan, Press on, has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race”.  With that same, are you tired of being tired? Are you sick of living a life of no fulfillment? If so, do you have the Will, Persistence, and Determination to fulfill the void in your life by chasing and attaining your dream?

I remember someone once asked me, if I had all the money in the world and I did not have to worry about my finances what would I be doing for work. My reply was that I would be a life and business coach because I enjoy helping people reach their highest potential. In fact that is where my passion lays. My friend then said “so why aren’t you doing that then…..”. It was one of the most impactful questions someone has ever asked me. I thought to myself, why am I not a life and business coach? I knew that coaching, mentoring, inspiring, and encouraging others was my gift. God gave me the gift of wisdom, faith, exhortation, teaching, and leadership. Yet, I was not using any of it. So I asked myself why? Was it because I was afraid to do something different? Scared to leave my comfort zone? Was it due to the fear of failure? Was it because I was comfortable with my current career? Was it because I financially depended on my job to provide for my children? I suppose, it was all of the above. I was in the Research and Development arena for over 12 years and that’s all I knew and I was good, better yet, I was great at my job. I climbed the corporate ladder fairly quickly however, there was still a void in my life. I was not happy. Why? Well it’s because success does not always equate happiness or fulfillment. My inner being was screaming to do what God had intended for my life. But I was afraid to take action.

You see my friends, I was much like most of you. I had a big dream but wasn’t chasing it. I didn’t start chasing my dream until I realized that I would never fill the void in my life if I wasn’t acting in my purpose. Once I realized that my dream mattered and I deserved to be living out my purpose is when I not only dared to dream but also took action.  I will tell you this, nothing happened right away, it took will, persistence, and determination to continue down the unpaved path. You see people do not display bravely by never fearing, it’s by being afraid and doing it anyway! I believe you all can accomplish this too. I believe you can do it afraid!

So I challenge you today, to press on, dare to put action to the dream you have in your heart! Be brave, have the will, persistence and determination to keep pushing. Don’t be the second best vision of yourself, be the Best version of you! Live in your potential and never forget, You are a warrior!

P.U.S.H

Does it sometimes it feel as if all that you have is never enough and the ones closest to you make you feel the worst? Do they make you feel as if you are a consistent failure because your situation is not their situation? Well, sometimes they simply don’t understand what you have been through or going through and that’s ok.  You still MATTER! We all fail at things and failure is not final, so don’t let that stop you from chasing your dream, use it as your fuel. You may be financially struggling today but that’s not going to be your story forever, P.U.S.H…….. You may be having what I like to call a character building day (aka “bad day”) but that won’t last forever either….. Take a moment, breath, and P.U.S.H. What doesn’t kill you, will make you stronger. You may bend but you won’t break. You are a lot stronger than you think so continue to P.U.S.H!
What I mean by P.U.S.H is to continue to “Pray Until Something Happens”. I know I have had days like this myself and have to continue to P.U.S.H. Psalms 55:22 says “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken”.  So, I allow the Lord to be my rock when the world gives me too much to handle and Psalms 55:22 gives me the confidence to keep going.  I am also reminded that struggle and pain is just a part of life but what I do with it, is what counts.
I could have sat and cried and gave up on my dreams because it got too hard but then I would not be this far on my journey. I remind myself that I have come a long way and giving up would be foolish. So I challenge you today to do what others won’t do, to have what others won’t have. Allow your current situation to build your character and when you do cry, don’t cry to give up, cry to keep going. You are already in pain, get a reward from it! Be great and continue to P.U.S.H

Put in the work!

I continue to hear people complain about how much they dislike their appearance, relationships, jobs and careers. They complain that there are little to no opportunities out in the market. Yet, they are unwilling to make a change. They make excuses on why they cannot make a change right now. I must admit, I use to be just like the people I hear complain about these very things. Yet, one day I decided to do something about it. I realized that I am the author and director of my life and if I didn’t like what I produced then I needed to change it and if there are no available opportunities out there for me then I would have to create one! In creating a new life that would allow me to experience joy, add value to others and be fulfilled was no easy task however, anything worth having and holding is never easily obtained and you must do what most won’t do, to have what most won’t have! It’s a mindset change!
So instead of complaining about your current situation or circumstance, step back and evaluate how you can make a change. Once you identify your strengths, talents, and gifts, use them to create a life of significance, one that matters. Then go after your dream like your life depends on it, because it does.
You want to look better…..Work For It, you want better relationships….. Work For It, you want a better job or career… Work For It!
Brendon Burchard said once that “We get to choose how we’re going to live – what level of energy, what level of vibrancy, what level of excitement” so go out today and be great and don’t forget you must put in work to create the life you want. Success and attaining your dreams will not come without sacrifice and hard work.  Be Unstoppable!

Single Parents

Single Parents

As a professional life and business  coach as well as a fellow single parent, I have observed the lack of appreciation of single parents and the lack of motivation to chase dreams. Not just from others but from within themselves.

Oftentimes, they have put their lives and dreams on hold, to dive in and raise their children. They completely stop dreaming and to remotely think about chasing their dream is far fetch. Yet, to all my single parents,  I want you to know that you Matter! All the sacrifices you have made have not been done unnoticed. However, the one thing I've learned as a single mother is to NEVER stop chasing my dream in the process of raising my children. Why? Because it speaks to my character. My drive has also driven my children to strive for their dreams even when they seem unattainable.

You see, when you stop dreaming and put life on hold, you are in turn telling your children that it's ok to let situations and circumstances get in-between them and their dream. Instead of balancing the best of both worlds.

As a life and business coach, I have to opportunity to work with people from all walks of life, but my favorite are the single parents who are relentlessly pursuing their dreams while raising their children. I coach men and women who woke up one morning and said "I had enough, I will no longer use the excuse of being a single parent, it will no longer be a barrier to my success or a crutch in my life" and let me tell you, they have reached their set goals and continue to relentlessly chase their dreams.

Single parents, you matter, you are loved, and you are also the first example of how a man or woman should behave and act. So what are you telling your child(ren) through your actions today? Are you telling them that when they fail they should stop and quit? Are you telling them that life is too hard, so give up? OR Are you telling them they must have endurance, failure is not final and they should never stop being great?

Yesterday, as I sat in the audience as my oldest son, presented his project with ease and confidence to his class and parents. I smiled and patted myself on the back while saying "great job mom". Why? Well because I know that even though he was scared, he had watched me overcome great challenges while being scared to do so. With that he did it afraid and in that moment, he grew into his next level.
Our children are reflections of the examples we have put forth when facing crisis, hardships, struggles and life circumstances. They are the mirrors showing us what we are reflecting and showing the world.

People use to ask me all the time, "how are you a single mother and still had time to finish a Masters and Doctoral program while working full time and raising your children without missing a beat?"
I say it's tenacity. Which means I continue to relentlessly chase my dreams regardless of my situation or circumstances.
I wrote a book talking about my journey. So, I challenge you today to invest in the book "The Parables of a Single Mother"  and reflect on how you will attain greatness while raising your children!

Endurance

How many of you have felt pain, whether from a heartbreak, losing a friend or family member, or maybe the pain was from overworking yourself? I know I have had my share of pain. The one thing that separates me from the next person is I know that pain doesn’t last forever and I am willing to endure the pain while it is here because my success is on the other side. You see endures is the fact or power of enduring an unpleasant or difficult process or situation without giving way. Many people tend to give up one minute too soon. They are scared to fight for their next level! If they had the endurance to keep going one minute longer they would have conquered their dreams.

I need you to look in the mirror and say to yourself today, I refuse to give up on myself, I refuse to quit because I failed, I refuse to be average! I am willing to do what others won’t do in order to have what others won’t have!

Someone once asked me “when you wake up in the morning what drives you?” and I replied the willingness to endure what life throws at me because I am unstoppable. So, I challenge you today to development a shift in your mindset and attitude, so when you fall on your back, you look up, get up, and NEVER give up.  Be tougher than your life. Because you are UNSTOPPABLE!

Communication

Communication
How many people did you speak to this morning on your way into work or to school? How many "good mornings" and "how you doings" did you say? I can bet at least a handful, you say it to the store clerk, the person behind the register at your favorite fast food restaurant, or even a coworker. Yet, the real question is, how many of those people did you truly connect with this morning? How many of them did you impact in a positive manner that will add value to their lives?

This is something I think about when I encounter others, why? Well because people are our greatest assets. Therefore, I am intentional about my encounters with each person that crosses my path from the lovely ladies that I know by name at the local Panera bread to each of my coworkers. I believe when you connect with people on their level they are more open to communicate with me whether it be for personal or professional purposes.

Connecting with others allows you to have an impact on their lives. Any good communicator understands the key elements of connecting. They know it's not all about "what you say" but rather "how you say it" and "in what matter".

Your words and manner you deliver a message can make or break an opportunity, a person, or a situation. Marlene Chism says that "By your choices you reveal your commitments".

So, I challenge you today to not just communicate but to also connect with one or two people. The key to connecting is in the details.
Go forth and Be Great!

Who are you grateful for in life today?

Dr. Christian Northrup once said “Feeling grateful or appreciative of someone or something in your life actually attracts more of the things that you appreciate and value into your life”. In which I agree.
Who are you grateful for in life today? I am grate for my team and the life experiences I have encountered, good and bad because I have learned valuable lessons in order to humble myself, trust in God, and lead others in their purpose. I know that I have several key players in my life that have been my biggest cheerleaders on days that I felt as if there was no reason to get out of bed. My key players love on me, comfort me when I am down and are completely honest with me. We all have an understanding that the truth hurts and we have come to terms with that because the truth will ignite a change. In addition, my key players also ensure that I don’t stay down to long. They allow me to feel the emotions that failures bring but won’t allow me to stew in my failures. Why? Because just as I know, they also know, that is not where my success will be found. With that said my success is not only mine but everyone on my team and I thank you! In my Drake voice “Started from the Bottom, Now we HERE”!
I challenge you today to evaluate who your key players are in your life and simply be appreciative and grateful them being your biggest cheerleaders in your life. Remember it is not mandatory for anyone to put up with our shenanigans in life, they chose to be there for you!

What Can I Do For You?

What Can I Do For You?
This morning I woke up hungry for success and the passion to help others. Each morning I think about ways that I can add value to other people for that specific day and how my God given talents can assist in the process. God has blessed me with the gifts of wisdom, exhortation, faith, leadership, and teaching therefore, I will use these gifts to position others for success in their lives. I want to be the giant’s shoulders that my fellow dream chasers can stand on in order to get to their next level.
I have come to realize that this life is not about me but about the value that I add in other people’s lives and when you have this mindset, you tend to accomplish your goals and attain your dreams in the process. My drive is not “what I can do for myself”, it is “what can I do for YOU”, this is the attitude that brings dreams alive!
So what is your mindset today? Are you dreaming big? Are you focused on just yourself? Well, I challenge you to focus on someone other than yourself today. The impact that you make will be the motivation you need to continue to pursue your goals. Walt Disney once said “All our dreams come true if we have the courage to pursue them” which is true but I also believe that “all your dreams come true when you have the courage to add value to others”.
Go and ask someone: "what can I do for you today?"

Sacrifice and Breakthrough

I thought about the sacrifices I am currently making in my own life over this past weekend as my pastor prayed over me for my breakthrough which lighten the burden I was feeling. As I sat in service listening to the message on the "Way of Wisdom" I considered who I was seeking out my wisdom from Earthly or Godly. I realized that sometimes like, Carrie Griffin said, " God gives us a course correction" to ensure we are on track to living out our dreams. However, the sacrifices that the course correction requires can be heavy.
We all come to a point in our lives that we are waiting for a breakthrough, in our finances, in our relationships, in our careers and when waiting on a breakthrough we tend to become weak at heart but don’t give up on yourself, don’t quit and don’t make excuses. It takes sacrifices in life to get what you want and your dreams may  need a little "course correction" for it to come into fruition. So while, we are charting the uncharted course, we need to have the three P’s  which are “Patience, Persistence and a Positive attitude. At times the three P's feel like a huge sacrifice, especially when it comes with giving up your life as you know it, walking away from unhealthy relationships, disciplining yourself with your finances or jumping head first into your own business/new career..... but your breakthrough is coming. Sacrifice and Breakthrough go hand and hand, you can't have one without the other. Willingness to sacrifice is the great paradox. Riley, The Winner Within, (53) notes “You must give up something in the immediate present – comfort, ease, recognition, quick rewards – to attract something even better in the future."
Remember you must be willing to do what most people won’t, in order to live like most people can’t!   So take that leap of faith, make the sacrifice, chase your dreams and you will find your breakthrough! Its coming?

You Matter

Sometimes you have to wake up in the morning and tell yourself that YOU matter!

Nicholas Watkins once said "it's not about the cards you're dealt, it’s how you play them. We either become a victim of our own circumstances by perceiving them to be obstacles or dead ends.  Yet, we can choose to look at them as stepping stones.  Don't be a victim.  Remember, you hold the keys to every prison you'll ever find yourself in".

Where are you finding yourself this morning?  It is my hope it's in a place of victory because you matter!

Embrace your struggles in life as they position you for your new season of life. So turn the page and get started!

Keeping it Real

Your quality of life is determined by YOU! What you want for your future is determined by the steps you take to get there.Whether it is a healthy relationship, love, like-minded individuals, like valued people, or simply good friends you seek, you must get out the house and network. I learned a while ago that my future husband nor my dreams were going to knock on my front door and be handed to be. I had to put in work, sow seeds and watch my seeds grow. While I'm nourishing my seeds, I have to remember that I deserve the best life in world. #Live,Laugh,Love

Les Brown says it this way "Keep it real! Stop lying to yourself. Look yourself in the mirror and say..."I am not running away anymore...from my dreams or the life that I deserve." I can live more, love more, do more, and achieve far beyond what I've done so far. Act as if you have nothing to lose and everything to gain! Run toward your GREATEST life ever"

Who I am and Whose I am

Who I am and Whose I am

I was feeling a little disappointed and disheartened yesterday evening about some things going on right now and my 9 year old son said something so profound to me. He said "why are you worried about the small things that God has already taken care of for you? I know the problem seems big to you but nothing is too big for HIM". I just looked at my son in amazement and said thank you.

God reminded me through my son last night that when you feel like
your world is not falling apart,  it's really falling into place and that I can't take everyone and everything on this journey with me.

Raising up leaders who model after Jesus' leadership  in my household, allowed God to step into the conversation and check me before I wrecked me.

Later that evening, God allowed me to connect with other strong leaders that I probably wouldn't have done without the reminder that he has already taken care of my small problems.

I almost forgot that I am the daughter of the Most High and that's who I am and was meant to be. I am the Lord's and nothing or nobody can take this status from me.

What Commitment Looks like to Leaders

What Commitment Looks like to Leaders:

What do you think about when you hear the word commitment? Maybe you think about a romantic relationship , or a time when you committed yourself to an event or a commitment to a team. Well,  the commitment that I'm referring to is the commitment of a leader!
In one of my biblical leadership studies, I learned that Commitment comes before anything else in a leader’s life. "Nehemiah had it and drew it out of others, the people finished the wall in 52 days, despite many adversities. Their great accomplishment so thrilled Nehemiah that he wrote, “When all our enemies heard of it, and all the nations around us saw these things...they were very disheartened in their own eyes; for they perceived that this work was done by our God” (Neh. 6:16)".

In this biblical leadership study, it made me pause and think about the characteristics or traits of a leader who brings out leadership in others especially those who are leaders empowering leaders. I found that most successful leaders who complete a monumental task, one that others said couldn't be done, possess at least four characteristics:

1. A compelling purpose: They make a great commitment to a great cause.

2. A clear perspective: They don’t let fear cloud their view of the future.

3. A continual prayer: They pray about everything and gain God’s favor.

4. A courageous persistence: They move ahead despite the odds.

As a leader who develops leaders, I understand that it takes a different set of skills to accomplish this goal therefore, I have embraced these four characteristics and demonstrate them daily. Why? Because I understand the power of raising and the power of developing other leaders.

I challenge you today to lead a leader, develop a leader to their highest potential or if you're a leader who wants to be developed to your highest potential, then I challenge you to contact me for professional coaching or leadership development training, sophiamiranda@johnmaxwellgroup.com

Be Great, because you are... Now it's your time to show the world.

Circumstances

We all have been through or are currently going through life's circumstances. In some sense it's the rights to passage process from one season in our life to another. The way we decide to handle each circumstance is key to our growth or to our demise. You see I know who I am and whose I am therefore, I am equipped to handle what life throws at me. Each morning I decide before I get out of bed that, I'm going to have a good day, hence, I have a good day. Why? Well it's simple, no matter what life throws my way I will be positive about it. For example, I remember once, meeting with the Vice President of my division and him saying blatantly that there is no longer a need for the program I run and if left to him he would get rid of the program all together. At that moment you would probably all agree I had the right to say it's a bad day however, I didn't say nor think that way, I thought to myself, well this season is coming to an end and I'm excited to see where God is leading me. Long story short  since that meeting with the VP, I have be blessed with many new opportunities. Oh and he never eliminated the position or program either! So, I am glad that I did not allow that meeting to shake my faith.

Today, I would like you all to keep in mind this quote I once heard "The same boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg.  It’s about what you’re made of, not the circumstances". As you go through your day repeat to yourself over and over.... I AM UNSTOPPABLE!

Live a stirring life

"Live a Stirring Life

Each of us should lead a life stirring enough to start a movement. We should yearn to change the world. We should love unquenchably, dream unfalteringly, and work unceasingly.

We should close our ears to the manifold voices of compromise and perch ourselves on the branch of truth. We should champion the value of people, proclaim the forgiveness of God, and claim the promise of heaven.

And we should lead a life stirring enough to cause a movement. A movement comes of age when one life harvests the seeds planted by countless lives in previous generations. A movement occurs when one person, no greater or lesser than those who have gone before, lives a forceful life in the fullness of time.

Let’s live lives stirring and forceful enough to cause a movement. A true mark of the visionary is his willingness to lay down his life for those whom he’ll never see.

Will the movement come in our generation? I hope so. But even if it doesn’t, even if we never see it, it will occur. And we’ll be part of it".

Today I Will.....

Today I Will . . .

Today I will make a difference. I will begin by controlling my thoughts. A person is the product of his thoughts. I want to be happy and hopeful. Therefore, I will have thoughts that are happy and hopeful. I refuse to be victimized by my circumstances. Optimism will be my companion, and victory will be my hallmark. Today I will make a difference.

I will be grateful for the twenty-four hours that are before me. Time is a precious commodity. I refuse to allow what little time I have to be contaminated by self-pity, anxiety, or boredom. I will face this day with the joy of a child and the courage of a giant. While it is here, I will use it for loving and giving. Today I will make a difference.

I will not let past failures haunt me. Even though my life is scarred with mistakes, I refuse to rummage through my trash heap of failures. I will admit them. I will correct them. I will press on. Victoriously. No failure is fatal. It’s okay to stumble. . . . I will get up. It’s okay to fail. . . . I will rise again. Today I will make a difference.

I will spend time with those I love. My my children, my family, close friends. Today, I will spend at least five minutes with the significant people in my world. Five quality minutes of talking or hugging or thanking or listening.

Today I will make a difference.

Leap!

Leap!

Have you ever felt uncertain about something you knew in your heart was the right step towards growth but the discomfort or fear to take that first step caused you to miss an opportunity? I know I have experienced this very thing in my life and I have missed an opportunity due to fear of the unknown.

At this stage in life, I am continuously faced with new feelings of discomfort and uncertainty as I continue to chase my dreams, asking myself questions like “is this really my dream?” or “is it really worth it”. Then, I look in the mirror and remember that I am unstoppable and that my comfort zone is not where my potential is. My potential is in the sweat and tears of the process and strive I am making towards attaining my dreams and working through my goals. Fearless, I am not, but I do it afraid because I know that the risk of staying in my comfort zone is not greater than the reward on the other side of my potential.

I have learned “fear, uncertainty and discomfort are your compasses towards growth”. So, I challenge you to take that leap and see where it leads you. I can promise you it will be somewhere better than where you are currently.

Necessary endings

This evening I took some time for myself, to reflect on my future and to use this quiet time to listen to where God is leading me. Praying for clarity, wisdom, and knowledge, so that I understand why he is stretching me. I know at times he does this because growth is not in my conform zone.
God asked me to be still for a moment. He knew, I needed this time for myself because I'm so focused on pouring life into others and helping them grow that I sometimes forget to refuel.

I had no idea that today would be the day he wanted me to make extra God Room than my routine "God room" but he knew. During my trip to Florida 2 weeks ago, I met a very nice woman, during our encounter she gave me her business card and on the back she wrote out 2 books. She said she normally writes the first book on the back of cards but something was nudging her to write the second book on there too.

The second book she wrote down was the one I happened to start reading today. When I started reading the first chapter, the story I was reading, jumped off the page. It was similar to my story in some ways. Which I found interesting and wondered how all the pieces fit together. Then it hit me.....

Before my time with God today, I received an Angel in the mail, it was a gift from my aunt and the message on the Angel was "Go Confidently toward your Dreams".

I believe this was God affirming his perfect plan for my life. Now it is my duty to accept necessary endings in some areas of my life. I have some things (and people) I need to give up in order to move forward. Becoming aware of these necessary changes is a sign of true growth!

Dare to Dream!

Scott Faye once said that we all need to “Dare to Dream”. I remember the first time I heard this, I thought to myself “then what” I wasn’t afraid of dreaming. I think I was more afraid of leaving my comfort zone to put my dreams to the test.  I had this thing we call “fear”. Fear is what most would believe to be an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. Yet, what unpleasant emotion would my dreams or putting them to the test cause? What pain could it possibility cause? I was unsure, therefore, I put my dreams on the back burner, year after year. Then I remember sitting in service one Sunday and Pastor Penny Maxwell said something that resonated with me. She said we all have fears. So even when we are afraid, “Do it anyway”. It was a sermon on leadership, and leadership was one of the things I was struggling with in my life at that time. I felt like she was talking to me. I felt like I was the only one in the room and the phrase “Do it anyway” was on repeat.  I felt a sense of peace at the moment, I knew that God was telling it “its OK to dare to dream and to take action”. He told me that I am more than enough and he gave me my dreams so that I can fulfill it. I remember thinking “so what am I afraid of”? It wasn’t the fact that I thought I would fail because I knew that everyone fails, I have done it myself, plenty of times before, it wasn’t that I thought I was inadequate because God told me I was more than enough. So what was I waiting for?
You see, Fear really means “False Evidence Appearing Real” so instead of talking yourself out of chasing your dream and taking action because you are afraid, Do It Anyway! Your potential is on the other side of your fear.  Once I realized that I had the ability to soar and that I serve a Big God then my eyes were opened and the lies that I believed that caused me to have fear was shattered….
So I challenge you to live beyond your fears today, I challenge you to look in that mirror this morning and tell yourself that you can soar! You were meant to be Great, no matter how bad your situation may look. And keep in mind “ A dream worth pursing is a picture and blueprint of your purpose and potential” #DaretoDream

Happy Resurrection Day!

Someone once said that "Easter is a promise God renews to us each spring. A promise that we’ll always have Him there, And like the flowers that bloom so bright
And birds that sweetly sing,
We always will receive His tender care, A promise that He’ll hold us up. Each time we start to fall. And see us through each hour of care and strife. Easter is God’s promise. That His love rules over all, And through Him. We will have eternal life".

With that I know my sins have been washed away and I have been made new!  Remember the reason for the Season!

Happy Resurrection  Day!

Perseverance

Perseverance
My son had received the perseverance award several years in a roll and as a mother I was very proud of him. I thought to myself, wow, my son, knows what it means to keep going even when things get hard. Well, the past two years I have learned a lot about perseverance, for myself. Throughout my journey on chasing my dreams I have been met with barrier after barrier and where a normal person would just cry it out and give up, is where I cried it out, lifted my hands to ask the Lord for his guidance, and kept pushing forward, even when I did not want to.

The thing about chasing your dreams is nothing will come easy. It is an uphill battle however, the reward you receive once you make it to top makes it all worth the fight. You see, perseverance means that you must possess steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Remember that when you keep pushing there will be a moment when preparation meets opportunity and success is born.

I challenge you today to go the extra mile, to fail forward and not quit, get knocked down and dare to get back up and keep going! God didn’t say your journey would be easy but it will be worth the time, tears, and sweat put into the journey. Go far and conquer all.

Look in the mirror and say to yourself “Be Great” why? Because you are!

Trend Setters

Trend Setters!

Being different is what makes us unique. Never be afraid to be who God called you to be in this world. People tend to follow the trends and the mass majority.
Well, today I challenge you to be a trend setter and instead of following the majority,be yourself and allow other the opportunity to see the real you!

Suzy Kassem puts its it like this "Being different and thinking differently make a person unforgettable. History does not remember the forgettable. It honors the unique minority the majority cannot forget".

Last week someone handed me a notebook with a note and a card inside which was a random act of kindness. What that person did not know, is the impact she had on my life and how much I appreciate her actions. She thought and acted differently which was something I can not forget!

Do something today worth remembering.

Monday, March 21, 2016

It has been a great experience partnering with John Maxwell and devising a plan to add values to others all over the world. I have learned so much these past six months about myself and the leader I would like to become. John truly has a servant heart and I am grateful to be surrounded by good people.

Moment Leaders vs Movement Leaders

Moment Leaders vs Movement Leaders

What do you think about when you hear the term "Leader"? Do you think about yourself in this role or do you see others in this role. I know some people don't see themselves as leaders and the reason is because they do not understand what leadership is. Leadership is NOT a positional title. Leadership is what John Maxwell says "leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less". Yet, we see consistent power struggles in the workplace with individuals who think themselves as leaders due to their position but have no followers.

I know I personally see this on the everyday basis and I realized I didn't want to fall in the trap of being a moment leader. I want to do and be more! I want to be a movement leader! God has called me out and I finally stepped up to the call. I said to God, when he called (he has been calling for a while) "Here I am, I'm ready, willingly, and able to make a movement". He never said it would be a walk in the park or easy as pie, but God promised if I was obedient he would take care of the rest.

John Maxwell taught me the difference between a moment leader and a movement leader and I would like to share that teaching with you:
Moment Leaders are ones who ask how long will the process take, they love instant gratification, lead with emotion, and are bigger on the outside than on the inside.

Movement Leaders are the ones who ask how far can we go, knows that anything worth having is never easily obtained and the process is uphill, they lead with character and let's it strength them and lastly, they are bigger on the inside than on the outside.

So, what type of leader are you? Moment or Movement? I challenge you today to join with me and become a movement leader!

Character and Integrity

Character & Integrity

When you are investing your time in someone or even yourself, do you examine their character or yours for the matter? How about integrity?

Most people ask me what is character and integrity? Well character is the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual and integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.
I believe when we intentionally invite like-minded and like-valued people to walk along side of us while we chase our dreams we have to a quick character and integrity check every so often in order for us to continue to grow.

We often have people in our lives that we believe will be there for a lifetime, only to find out that they were only meant to be there for a season. We usually come to this conclusion after we sit down and do a character and integrity check.

We also realize at times the people who were our biggest fans during the aspiration phase of our dreams are not our fans when we start chasing our dreams. It's not because they don't love us or care about us anymore, they just can't see us differently and have put a limitation on our growth. You see, God, put that dream inside of you, not them and that's why they can't see or understand your willingness to step out of your comfort zone. Paul Martinelli once said God made us to "be and do more". So go and chase your dreams without limitations. While you are pursuing them like your life depends on it, remember what Les Brown said  "Align yourself with people that you can learn from, people who want more out of life, people who are stretching and searching and seeking some higher ground in life".

So, I challenge you to do a character and integrity check on the people in your circle and on yourself to be sure you are in an environment that allows you to take action to live out your dreams while you are adding value to others!

God Room

God Room
Over the past few days I have had the opportunity to connect with some amazing individuals, who are like-minded  and genuine about adding value to other people's lives at the John Maxwell Leadership Conference. The most important part of our connection was the fact that we All have a relationship with God and God's presence was truly in Orlando with us as our faculty members taught key elements of leadership. There were many takeaways in respect to leadership that I took with me but the key takeaway wasn't during the conference, this one was delivered during worship service by John himself. He spoke of us having "God room". What does that mean? Well, simply put, We must have room for God in our lives. We do this by inviting him into our hearts and lead through obedience.

Now anyone who knows me, knows I am or should I say I WAS  God's stubborn child. Although I was stubborn, I have always made room for Him in my life. I continued to be stubborn until he took me on this journey of faith and trust. I am so grateful for all the lessons I have learned along the way, although most were not very pleasant. But I stand here today with a story/testimony that I can use, to reach out and touch others. I now know when God says Go to just do it with no questions or debate.

During service that day I was given the opportunity to witness hundreds of people give their lives to Christ. Some were from countries where being a Christian comes with great consequences but they still did it.

The courage they demonstrated knowing the consequences was powerful to me. I thought to myself how can I be afraid to leave my comfort zone to chase my dreams when God is standing here showing me his power.
My purpose and dreams are bigger than me.. But that's ok because I serve a Big God!

So, I challenge you today to add God room in your life and watch were it takes it!

Growth

I once heard someone say "I’ll never be PERFECT but I can be BETTER. Today, I’m focusing on improvement, not perfection". I believe this to true each and every day because focusing on improvement equates growth.

Your personal growth is very important for each individual and their success or ability to capture their dreams. So, do what Les Brown says, find what it is you want then go after it like your life depends on it, why? Because it does!

I have done this myself and now I invite you to join in on this journey called life. Let's Do Life Today! Tell me how can I serve your needs today.

Connections

Today is a day of connections. As you know I love my Monday's. Why? Because they Matter, just like you Matter! The connections you make today will impact who you are and where you go tomorrow. Seek out like-minded people to take on this journey called life. But remember you will only attract who you are, so be who you want to attract. And ask yourself,  What is the greatest conversation you will have with yourself today?

Today, as I connect with others, I have the opportunity to attract like-minded people and welcome them into my spear of influence. There are over 2,000 people at the John Maxwell conference that I am attending so as John would say, "the answers of tomorrow will be told by a leader today" and that Leader is me. Why? Because I am a conquer and victorious and I'm walking in my purpose. Are you?

Blessed

Blessed
You hear people all the time say that they are blessed. What does it mean to be blessed? Is this a status, just a term, or something more?  Blessed, to me, is when you have found favor with the Lord.  We  are all in line for blessings and one person's blessing may be very different from your blessings. So don't compare yourself to someone else or be envious or jealous of what God has blessed them with  because you do not know the hell that they had to go through to receive that blessing.

My blessings are my own and I'm grateful for each one given to me. I am also patient when I'm going through a season that is preparing me for my blessing because although that season is difficult I know that I am being cultivated and nourished to take on God's purpose for my life.

So, today reflect upon the blessings God has already given you, be genuinely happy for the blessings giving the others, and be patient, trust, and have faith that you are being position to receive your next blessing!
Happy Sunday

Grateful

Grateful

Take a moment this moment to reflect upon the week that has passed and think about all the things that you are grateful for. Think about the new connections and future friendships that will develop because you took time to add value to someone else's life this past week.
I know I am grateful for my family and friends this week, in addition to all the new connections I have made, people who I will be able to call friend, one day. I am grateful for my spiritual  gifts of wisdom, exhortation (encouragement), faith, leadership, and teaching as I am able to carry out my purpose each and every day.

So, this Saturday before you go out and run your errands, take a moment and think about the things and people that you are grateful for in your life and simply say thank you!

I have a Dream……

I have a Dream……
Have you taken a moment this week to sit down and think about your dreams and aspirations for your life? Have you thought about what it is you are specifically called to do in this life time? What is your purpose? Why you can start living a life of significance each and every day? I know I have come to the realization that I had to stop and do all of the above to get to where I am in life today. I had to stop living for everyone else’s dreams and start chasing my own. This week I spoke a lot on our thoughts, words, and action and the reason for this is because I want you all to start chasing your dreams no matter how delusional it may seem to others. Les Brown says “your dream was given to you. If someone else can’t see it for you, that’s fine, it was given to you and not them. It’s your dream. Hold it. Nourish it. Cultivate it!” So why are you still not chasing yours?

When I started to chase my dreams and acting on what it is I wanted in my life, the people who were around when my dreams were just my thoughts and aspirations, were having a hard time actually watching me take action to make my dream a reality. Not because they did care or love me but because we were not on the same page. I have what my brother calls a winner’s mentality and I have decide to put my trust in God and leave my comfort zone. When I made this decision I realized I couldn’t bring everyone with me on my journey. I had to find like-minded people who shared the winner’s mentality in order to continue on. I believe we all need to find the like-minded people in our lives and put some distance between those who don’t have the same vision because they are stunting your growth!

So, today take a moment and think about your dreams, put it to paper because the time to start acting on them is NOW.
